About the role
The Senior Manager, VAT will lead VAT advisory and risk management for Amazon Business across its multi-jurisdictional operations. The role combines deep technical VAT expertise with strong commercial and operational judgment to translate complex tax requirements into practical, scalable solutions across business processes, products, systems, and operations.
Working closely with Tax, Legal, Technology, Finance, and business teams, the Senior Manager will identify and mitigate VAT risks, challenge proposed solutions, and influence senior stakeholders to make informed, risk-based decisions in a fast-paced and complex environment.
Key job responsibilities
Lead VAT advisory and risk management for Amazon Business across multiple jurisdictions, supporting existing operations, new products, business initiatives, and expansion opportunities.
Translate complex VAT requirements into practical and scalable solutions across business processes, products, systems, and operations, while identifying and mitigating VAT risks.
Partner with business, technology, legal, finance, and tax teams to design, implement, and maintain effective VAT requirements and controls.
Challenge proposed solutions and assess operational readiness for new launches and significant changes, identifying gaps, implementation risks, and potential VAT exposure.
Provide strategic VAT advice to senior stakeholders, monitor regulatory developments, and lead complex cross-functional initiatives and the development of team members.
A day in the life
Advise business and technology teams on VAT implications of new products, customer journeys, and operational changes.
Review and challenge proposed solutions and requirements to identify VAT risks, gaps, and implementation issues.
Engage with senior and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve complex VAT issues and drive risk-based decisions.
- Experience liaising with tax authorities including responding to audits and information requests
- Experience an indirect tax role in a multinational and/or professional organization
- Experience advisory experience in a large accounting/consultancy practice, law firm, tax authority or business in-house.
- Knowledge of knowledge of VAT in EU/UK
- Experience analyzing and reviewing statutes, regulations, and case law and then extracting data to make appropriate recommendations

Basic qualifications
- professional tax, accounting or legal qualification (e.g., Chartered Accountant (CA), Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) or similar)- Experience liaising with tax authorities including responding to audits and information requests
