About the role
As a senior software engineer, you will develop and improve large-scale distributed systems on top of AWS services, learn new technologies, and build new applications on big-data platforms. AWS Metering is on the critical path of billing, and you can expect your work to be used by hundreds of AWS teams, impact millions of external customers, and save millions of dollars.

Key job responsibilities
Design high-quality, efficient, and testable code in Java and other object-oriented languages.
Build large-scale, highly available distributed systems that can grow tenfold every three years.
Develop new anomaly detection algorithms to detect and eliminate billing inaccuracies, helping customers control costs.
Collaborate with AWS teams to build software and services that simplify their growing billing needs.
Own and operate the systems you build, holding a high bar for data quality, correctness, and operational rigor.
Contribute to planning, design, implementation, testing, operations, and process improvement as a member of a Scrum team.
Partner with product managers and engineers across Commerce Platform teams to deliver features and drive the adoption of best practices.
About the team
At AWS Metering, we build billing services and features that enable event-metering, storage-metering, and derived metering. We enable cost allocation through tags and generate cost alerts for AWS customers. We also build and operate one of the largest big-data processing pipelines at Amazon, continuously improving its scale and efficiency.
In addition, we are developing new anomaly detection algorithms to minimize billing errors and designing new services aimed at reducing metering processing latencies from hours to minutes.
Basic qualifications
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
Preferred qualifications
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
