Sr. Software Development Engineer, Amazon Quick - Mission Control Triggers

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. · Remote (United States) · Software Development

Remote (United States)Full-timeSenior

About the role

Amazon Quick is Amazon's agentic AI-powered workspace - an AI assistant for work that turns questions into answers, answers into actions, and actions into outcomes for entire teams. It connects to your applications, tools, and data, learns how you work, and takes action on your behalf, all in natural language with no coding required.

Mission Control is where business users set up and manage the triggers that start work automatically - on a schedule or in response to an event - and monitor what runs. As a Software Development Engineer III on the Mission Control - Triggers team, you will own the design and delivery of the trigger platform across the full stack - backend services (Java/Kotlin, AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, EventBridge), CDK infrastructure, and frontend. You will set technical direction for major features, make the hard architecture tradeoffs, raise the engineering bar through design and code reviews, and mentor engineers across the team.

Key job responsibilities
Own the architecture and end-to-end delivery of large, ambiguous features spanning backend, infrastructure, and frontend
- Drive technical design across the team and with partner teams on the Amazon Quick platform, making sound tradeoffs on reliability, scale, and cost
- Build and operate scalable, event-driven distributed systems on AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, EventBridge, ECS Fargate)
- Define and maintain multi-region CDK infrastructure and deployment pipelines
- Raise the engineering bar through design reviews, code reviews, and operational excellence (alarms, dashboards, runbooks, on-call)
- Mentor and grow mid-level and junior engineers; act as a technical leader and force multiplier for the team
- Partner with product and UX to translate ambiguous business needs into concrete technical roadmaps

A day in the life
You will work on the Trigger Service - the platform that starts work automatically when a schedule fires or an event occurs. A typical day mixes deep technical work - designing event-driven distributed systems, reviewing code and designs, debugging cross-account request delivery - with collaboration: partnering with product and other teams on the Amazon Quick platform, scoping features, and unblocking engineers on the team. You will own features end to end, from design through multi-region rollout and production operations, and set the design and code-quality bar the team is measured against.

About the team
The Mission Control - Triggers team builds the Trigger Service for Amazon Quick - the platform that starts work automatically on a schedule or in response to an event. It is both an end-user feature and a platform that other teams on the Amazon Quick platform build on, so our team is never the bottleneck as Quick grows. The service is event-driven and multi-region. We hold a high bar for operational excellence, ship frequently, and value ownership, technical rigor, and collaboration. The team is based in San Francisco.
