Software Development Engineer II, PartyRock
Amazon Web Services Development Center Germany GmbH · Berlin, Germany · Software Development
Full-time
About the role
How do you teach millions of people to understand AI, not by lecturing, but by letting them build? That is the challenge we are solving on the PartyRock team in Berlin.
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to help us turn AI literacy into a hands-on experience. You will work on PartyRock (partyrock.aws), an AI-powered application builder that lets non-technical users create interactive web apps using natural language. Your code will directly shape how students, educators, and curious minds around the world learn AI by doing AI.
This is a backend role on a small, fast-moving team where you ship frequently, work across the entire stack, and see your work reach real users within days.
Party Rock is a part of AWS Utility Computing (UC) which provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and build features across the full stack, from React frontend to Lambda backend to the database, in a TypeScript-first codebase with end-to-end type safety
- Prototype and ship new AI-powered experiences that make complex AI concepts accessible to non-technical users
- Collaborate with partner organizations and cross-functional teams to bring AI education to classrooms and events worldwide
- Contribute to system reliability through code reviews, operational excellence, and participation in an on-call rotation
A day in the life
You will work in our Berlin office as part of an engineering team with full ownership of the product. One day you might be building a new AI-powered widget, the next you are optimizing streaming performance for thousands of concurrent users, and the day after you are prototyping an idea that came out of a conversation with an educator around the globe.
We ship fast and iterate often. You will work across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and AI integration, with guidance from experienced engineers when you need it.
We are in-office in Berlin and value a sustainable pace. You will participate in an on-call rotation to keep our systems reliable.
About the team
Our mission: we democratize AI literacy by enabling anyone to learn through building. By creating solutions to their real problems, people develop transferable AI skills and insights. Learning AI by doing AI.
We are a Berlin-based team within AWS, building PartyRock (partyrock.aws). Our users range from students in classrooms to employees exploring AI for the first time. We work with education partners all over the world to bring AI literacy to millions of people through events and direct access.
Engineers own features end-to-end, from database schema to production deployment, and we use AI throughout our own development process. If you want to work close to customers, ship often, and see your impact directly, this is the team.
You would work on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Developer Tools org where we are going to use generative AI and foundation models to re-imagine the experience of all builders on AWS. From the IDE to web based tools and services AI will help engineers to work on large and small applications. In this team we have to explore new technologies and find creative solutions. Curiosity and an explorative mindset can find a place to impact the life of engineers around the world.
