Software Development Engineer, Music Search Retrieval Technology

Amazon.com Services LLC · Remote (United States) · Software Development

Remote (United States)Full-time

About the role

Do you have a passion for solving complex problems in Search? Do you want to help millions of people around the world quickly find the music they enjoy, even if they don't know what they'd like to listen to in this moment? And then, extend it to more than music? As a member of the Amazon Music Search team, you will extend and improve the ways customers find and experience content on voice and visual clients like Alexa, mobile apps, Fire TV, and Roku, all across the world.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and build search services and distributed data stores that power content discovery across Amazon Music's voice and visual clients, balancing scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability.
- Deliver search features end-to-end, from requirements gathering and system design through coding, testing, deployment, and operational support, choosing the right data structures and algorithms for each problem.
- Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to teammates and coaching others on writing clean, well-organized code that is easy to maintain and extend.
- Investigate operational issues, identify root causes, and drive permanent fixes while improving your team's technical processes and system reliability.
- Work with product, science, and engineering partners to translate customer needs into search improvements, and evaluate new tools and approaches that can raise the quality of results and team productivity.

A day in the life
You will collaborate with teams around the globe to design, build, and launch search systems that power discovery across Amazon Music. A typical stretch might include pairing with a science team on a ranking improvement, writing and reviewing code for a new indexing pipeline, and jumping on a production issue to trace it back to its source. You will regularly brainstorm with product and technical partners to shape what comes next.

About the team
The Amazon Music Search engineering team owns search and discovery across every Amazon Music client experience, covering music, podcasts, and more. We build highly available distributed data stores that index a growing catalog of content, along with the core APIs customers rely on every time they search.
