Software Development Engineer, AWS Config, AWS Config

Amazon Web Services, Inc. · Seattle, WA · Software Development

Full-time

About the role

AWS Config is the service that lets customers assess, audit, and evaluate the configurations of their AWS resources at scale. Config continuously records resource configuration changes and relationships across accounts and regions, and powers compliance, security, and governance for millions of customers.

We're investing heavily in the next generation of the service — from the ingestion and recording backend to the customer-facing console experience — and we're looking for a Software Development Engineer to help build it.

This is a full-stack role. You'll work across the stack: designing and building resilient, high-throughput backend APIs and data pipelines that record and process configuration data, and building the console and UI experiences that customers use to explore their resources, relationships, and compliance posture. You'll have opportunities to setup new services and deliver features to existing services — from design docs and API contracts through implementation, testing, deployment, and operations.

You'll join a team that values operational excellence, thoughtful design, and mentorship. You'll partner with senior engineers, principal engineers, product managers, and other AWS service teams to have direct impact on how customers understand and secure their cloud footprint.

Key job responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate scalable backend services and APIs that record, process, and serve AWS resource configuration data.
- Build customer-facing console and web experiences, translating customer needs into intuitive, performant, and accessible UI.
- Write high-quality, well-tested code across the stack, and contribute to design and code reviews.
- Own the operational health of your services, participate in on-call, monitor with metrics and alarms, and drive down operational load through automation.
- Leverage AI to efficiently and effectively execute your job
- Collaborate with senior engineers and principal engineers on architecture and technical direction, and help raise the bar through mentorship and design feedback.

A day in the life
You might start the day refining an API contract with a partner team, move into implementing a new console view backed by that API, review a teammate's CR, and wrap up by cutting an alarm-driven improvement to reduce recurring on-call noise. You'll balance new feature delivery with the operational excellence that keeps a AWS service healthy.

About the team
The AWS Config Recorder Management team owns configuration recording and resource-relationship data for AWS. Our work spans a high-scale ingestion backend and the console experiences customers rely on for compliance and governance. We care deeply about each team member and respect their opinions. We prioritize operational excellence, sustainable on-call, and growing engineers.
