The Senior Virtualization Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, optimization, and support of enterprise virtualization and hybrid cloud infrastructure environments. This role provides technical leadership for VMware and Nutanix platforms, leads infrastructure upgrade and migration initiatives, and ensures the availability, performance, and scalability of virtualized environments.

The position plays a key role in delivering datacenter transformation projects, infrastructure modernization programs, platform consolidations, and operational improvements. The Senior Virtualization Engineer partners with architects, project managers, support teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable and cost-effective infrastructure solutions while maintaining operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Virtualization Infrastructure Management

• Design, deploy, administer, and optimize VMware vSphere and Nutanix infrastructure platforms.
• Manage virtualization technologies including vCenter, ESXi, vMotion, DRS, HA, and vSAN.
• Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, infrastructure health assessments, and resource optimization.
• Ensure high availability, resiliency, security, and compliance across virtualization environments.

Project Delivery & Infrastructure Modernization

• Lead and support datacenter migrations, infrastructure upgrades, platform refreshes, and consolidation initiatives.
• Participate in infrastructure design reviews, solution planning, and implementation activities.
• Develop project estimates, implementation plans, risk assessments, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.

Operations & Support

• Provide advanced troubleshooting for complex virtualization, storage, networking, and infrastructure issues.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to improve platform stability.
• Monitor infrastructure performance and proactively address capacity or operational risks.
• Support operational excellence through SLA adherence, incident management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Automation & Process Improvement

• Develop and maintain automation solutions using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python, or related tools.
• Improve operational efficiency through process standardization and automation.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

• Work closely with infrastructure architects, application teams, support teams, and vendors.
• Communicate technical issues, project status, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Support operational handover and knowledge transfer activities following project completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience in enterprise virtualization and infrastructure engineering.
• VMware VCP and Nutanix NCP certifications are desirable.
• Experience supporting medium to large enterprise virtualization environments and infrastructure transformation projects.
