About the role

As part of the AWS Applied AI Solutions organization, we have a vision to provide business applications, leveraging Amazon’s unique experience and expertise, that are used by millions of companies worldwide to manage day-to-day operations. We will accomplish this by accelerating our customers’ businesses through delivery of intuitive and differentiated technology solutions that solve enduring business challenges. We blend vision with curiosity and Amazon’s real-world experience to build opinionated, turnkey solutions. Where customers prefer to buy over build, we become their trusted partner with solutions that are no-brainers to buy and easy to use.

AWS Applied AI Solutions' (AAIS) vision is every business innovating with Amazon AI teammates. Our mission is to build delightful AI solutions that improve human capabilities and business outcomes. The Agentic WorkSpaces organization within AAIS envisions a world where people, teams, and AI collaborate securely from anywhere to create unprecedented value for every organization. We build lovable products that empower every business to unlock the full potential of human-AI teamwork, driving smarter decisions, greater creativity, more value, and faster innovation with confidence.

Within Agentic WorkSpaces, our team is building WorkSpaces for Agents (W4A) where this vision meets enterprise reality. W4A enables AI agents to work the way humans do, with access to real applications, real interfaces, and real computing environments. We're building foundational infrastructure that allows autonomous agents to securely provision, interact with, and manage computing sessions at scale. Enterprises want to use AI agents for critical business workloads that touch legacy desktop applications and mainframes, yet 75% of organizations run legacy applications that lack modern APIs. WorkSpaces for Agents solves this painful problem: it gives enterprises the ability to connect their AI agents to a secure, governed, cloud desktop environment where agents can operate both legacy and modern applications directly, just as an employee would, without costly migrations.

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Software Development to build and lead the engineering organization for WorkSpaces for Agents. This is a foundational leadership role on a product defining a new category: enterprise-grade desktop environments purpose-built for AI agents. You will hire, grow, and lead the engineering teams that build the systems letting autonomous agents securely provision sessions and operate desktop and mainframe applications, inside the compliance envelope that regulated enterprises require. The problems your teams will solve do not have established industry patterns. You will own delivery and set the organizational direction for how AI agents interact with computing environments at enterprise scale.

What You Will Do
Build and lead the engineering organization. Hire, develop, and retain high-caliber engineering managers and senior engineers. Set the talent bar, create growth paths, and build the culture that makes W4A a destination for the best builders.
Own end-to-end delivery of the solution. Drive the roadmap and execution for how AI agents, from any framework, securely provision, connect to, and operate within WorkSpaces sessions: session lifecycle, multi-tenant isolation, elastic scaling, and cross-platform compatibility.

Deliver the tooling and governance layers that make agents effective and trusted. Lead the teams building the managed MCP service and forwarded tools that improve agent accuracy while reducing cost, and the security model — session isolation, agent identity, permission boundaries, audit trails, and human-in-the-loop controls — that enterprises require.

Balance invention with operational rigor. WorkSpaces has served enterprise customers for over a decade and operates at massive scale. You will build a new product category on this foundation while maintaining the reliability that customers depend on.

Drive cross-organizational execution. Partner across AgentCore, Identity, Security, Networking, and the MCP ecosystem — and with product, science, and program leaders — to resolve dependencies and ship a coherent system.

Key job responsibilities
Set organizational direction and delivery strategy: Define the multi-year execution roadmap for W4A engineering, structure the teams to deliver it, and secure buy-in from VP-level leadership.

Hire and grow engineering talent: Own recruiting, calibration, development, and retention across engineers and engineering managers. Mentor toward senior and principal scope, and raise the engineering bar across the organization.

Deliver highly ambiguous, novel systems: Lead teams through foundational challenges in agent-computer interaction — session lifecycle, isolation, scaling, and cross-OS compatibility — where neither the approach nor the success criteria are pre-defined.

Own operational excellence at enterprise scale: Ensure the systems meet the security, reliability, availability, and auditability bar that regulated enterprises require, and establish the operational mechanisms that sustain them.

Deliver measurable business impact: Ensure execution translates to customer outcomes: faster setup, lower cost-per-action, higher task accuracy, reduced blast radius, and the operational metrics that demonstrate enterprise trust is being earned.

Drive cross-organizational technical alignment: Work across partner teams to shape roadmaps, resolve architectural dependencies, and ensure cross-cutting decisions compose into a coherent system.

Partner with product and science: Turn product vision and applied research into shipped capability.
