Position Overview
Salesforce is looking to add a Senior Tax Analyst to our team! In this role, you will take ownership of our Canadian corporate income tax (CIT) compliance function by managing the deliverables of our outsourced tax service provider. Your primary focus will be on the technical review of returns, analyzing financial schedules, and acting as the strategic link between external advisors and internal stakeholders. To be successful, you must possess a collaborative yet independent mindset. While you will partner with our internal Accounting department to obtain baseline financial schedules, resource constraints within that team mean you will also be expected to handle self-service data extraction and report generation directly from our enterprise financial systems. This role requires strong review capabilities, systems fluency, and a proactive approach to resource management.
Location: Toronto, ON
Work Model: Hybrid (3 days per week in-office, 2 days remote)
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance Review & Sign-Off: Perform a detailed technical review of Canadian corporate income tax returns (T2s), GIFI alignment, and foreign affiliate reporting forms (T1134, T106) prepared by the outsourced provider.
- Ensure technical accuracy, alignment with current tax law, and coordinate final internal approvals and filings.
- SR&ED Coordination & Review: Manage the end-to-end coordination of Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentive claims. Work closely with internal engineering/R&D stakeholders to identify eligible projects and compile baseline costing details. Oversee and technically review the final SR&ED technical and financial schedules compiled by the outsourced tax service provider before submission.
- Accounting Collaboration & Self-Service Data Extraction: Partner with the internal Accounting department to secure core financial packages. Due to internal accounting resource constraints, independently execute self-service data queries and run sub-ledger or general ledger reports within corporate ERP tools to bridge any documentation gaps.
- Vendor Management & Data Interpretation: Act as the primary liaison to the outsourced tax service provider. Deliver internally compiled data packages, provide clear technical explanations of Salesforce's financial systems data, investigate variances, and resolve provider queries.
- Audit Defense Oversight: Manage responses to queries from the CRA and provincial tax authorities. Coordinate with the outsourced provider to draft clear technical defense memos, and independently extract system documentation required to support audit queries.
- Provision Analysis Support: Support the global tax provision team by reviewing localized tax data needed for financial reporting purposes (US GAAP / ASC 740), ensuring outsourced return data reconciles seamlessly with internal tax accounts.
- Legislation: Stay updated on Canadian tax legislation amendments to evaluate impact on existing compliance structures.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education & Designations: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent. A CPA designation (or equivalent) is highly preferred.
- Experience: 4 to 7+ years of progressive corporate taxation experience, emphasizing tax return review, public accounting (Big 4 preferred), or managing outsourced vendor relationships within a global corporate environment.
- Systems Fluency & Report Generation: Strong technology orientation and a proven ability to independently navigate financial systems (e.g., Oracle, Workday, Hyperion, Essbase) to pull trial balances, extract general ledger details, and run custom financial reports without heavy reliance on accounting teams.
- Technical Review Acumen: Deep working knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act, transfer pricing concepts, and provincial allocation rules, with a proven ability to spot errors and discrepancies in external vendor outputs.
- Collaboration & Adaptability: Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally across different geographies, alongside the flexibility to pivot between collaborative project management and hands-on independent data verification.
- Advanced Data Skills: High proficiency with Microsoft Excel to manipulate dense financial reports, build baseline tax workpapers, and verify provider calculations.
- Logistics: Ability to commute to our downtown Toronto office 3 days per week.
